CISI Introduction qualification achieves UCAS Tariff

The Certificate for Introduction to Securities & Investment, the first CISI qualification to receive a UCAS Tariff – is a two unit qualification:

  • The Introduction to Securities & Investment – this unit is a multiple choice examination consisting of 10 modules. Topics covered include Bonds, Derivatives and Financial Services Regulation.
  •  Project component – This unit encourages students to research further into the area of the Introduction to Securities & Investment syllabus, based on topic titles provided by CISI, and for students to produce an essay of their findings.

The first unit is a core, professional benchmark qualification used by the wholesale financial services industry as an entry exam. It is already taken by a number of independent schools and further education colleges. With the addition of the project unit plus the UCAS tariff, the qualification will become more attractive to all types of schools and colleges throughout the UK.

Students achieving the highest grade of a Pass with Distinction will be able to claim 60 Tariff points, which is equivalent to a grade A at A/S Level. Students achieving a Pass with Merit or a Pass can claim 40 and 20 points respectively.

This new qualification will be available to schools and colleges from September 2010. Those schools and colleges interested in the qualification should contact John O’Keeffe, Head of Educational Development – john.o’keeffe@cisi.org

How the CISI works with education centres

The CISI’s foundation qualification – Introduction to Investment – has been specifically designed to meet the needs of new entrants to the investment industry. It provides an overview of all areas of investment and understanding the role of financial services in the UK economy.

The CISI has accredited several schools, colleges of further education and skills academies to deliver training for the Introduction to Investment.

A select group of universities are recognised as CISI Centres of Excellence for offering leadership in academic education, focused on financial markets. Candidates on recognised Masters programmes qualify for exemptions in gaining the prestigious CISI Diploma, which covers securities, investment, compliance, derivatives, corporate finance and operations.
